When Darkness Ends Guardians Of Eternity Alexandra Ivy 9781420125177 Books

I read this entire series and it has always been one of my favorites.......even with waiting for each book. This last installment was not only about the vampire, Cyn, but the Chatri princess, Fallon. We have met these characters in some of the other books, along with Styx, Viper, Dante and many more (oh, how can I possibly forget Levet, the sassy gargoyle).
Like all the others in this series, we find love, passion, adventure, mystery and of course, the evil villain. These vampires have been fighting to save themselves and the world for a very long time. But they are a family, and even when they are angry with one another, they would rather die than have any harm to pay off this family. They each have rather quirky personalities, and are sometimes terribly funny, as well as grumpy. I have really liked all the mates that have come into each story, and this did not disappoint. In fact, this had two characters finding mates and one was a real surprise. I certainly recommend this series. And while I guess they could be read as standalones, I think the reader needs to start at the beginning in order to know the characters as the go from book to book. I am sorry to see it end, but hope that there will be more greatness from Ms. Ivy.

Ivey publishes another gem in her Guardians of Eternity series with the Irish Cyn being unwittingly paired with a fairy princess in a bid to help the most powerful supernatural lawmen "the Oracles" save all non-humankind.

I loved that Viper and Dante and especially Styx had an integral role in the book - they were important to the story, and unlike other sequel books, didn't just show up, say howdy, and fade back to obscurity. What I DIDN"T like was that their wives, three very powerful women were no where to be found when the bleep hit the fan. Darcy was visiting her sister, which is understandable, but why did Shay and the Phoenix stay home (presumably) and watch NETFLIX while their mates were in a fight for their very existence? I mean come on - if the King of the Vampires is dying, Viper is going to ask Shay to heal him, even if they do have (ahem) bad blood between them.

And don't get me started on why the Phoenix should have been at the battle. I'm baffled about their absence.

However, the book is awesome as usual. I so look forward to each year when Ivy gives us another gem to devour.

SYNOPSIS
An Oracle drafts (kidnaps!) the hero and heroine to do some special ops work for the Commission. Since they disappeared in a poof together, the heroine's father, the king of the Chartri (the supermen of the Fairies) thinks she was taken against her will. He sends her obnoxious fiancée Prince Mangus to bring her home to their dimension. Mangus is a self absorbed 200% pain in the tush, while staying with Styx. He's so bad, Styx appeals to Viper to borrow someone to use as a liaison and a buffer between Prince Pompus and his host Styx. Enter an Imp Tonya who surprises Prince Pompus at the magnitude of the chemistry between them.

Meanwhile, his princess fiancée is fighting her own chemical romance draw to Cyn the vampire she's trapped with on Oracle business, and keeps trying to tell herself that her loveless match to Prince Pompous is her sworn duty as a Princess.

The backdrop is this bad Druid dude is trying to do really bad things that would result in destroying most of the supernaturals, so the gang (minus their WIVES) all swing into action and save the world and beyond.

IMO I love Ivey and would read anything she publishes. Is this my favorite? Nah, but it's worth buying and enjoying.
When Darkness ends is the last book in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series. This book centers around Cyn the vampire clan chief of Ireland and Fallon who is a Chatri (The Fae who have separated to a different dimension from the species they feel are below them - basically everyone) princess. This could be read as a stand alone although it's probably more satisfying reading it within the series. Cyn and Fallon weren't in the entire series but were first introduced in the previous book, Hunt the Darkness. However, the important things from that book are recaped in this book so you could read it without having read Book 11.

This book is mainly about the relationship that unfolds with Cyn and Fallon but it is surrounded by a final plot of intrigue and new bad guys. In this book Cyn and Fallon have been "requested" to investigate for the Commission of the Oracles. It seems someone is trying to close the veil between the dimensions and is using the commission to do it.

Cyn is an Alpha male with protective instincts. He is known for his hedonistic life and love for all things sensual. However, he has a softer side and is also built his clan with outcasts and people with no place to go. Fallon has been raised to be nothing more than a pawn in her father's court. She is pure and has also been promised to a Chatri male in a political marriage. Chatri females are looked at as more possessions and are expected to "be seen not heard." Fallon is uncomfortable with her attraction to Cyn as even she knows his reputation as a "man-whore." Fallon may have been raised as a princess but she has a backbone. Cyn is also attracted to Fallon and underlying that is the need to protect her and make her happy.

As I mentioned, the plot is interesting but the story is really about the romance between Fallon and Cyn and it's done really well. There is a slow build between two wonderful characters that is very satisfying. My only complaint is that I would have liked a little more of a final scene between Fallon and Cyn.

This book brings back some of the main characters in the series including Styx (the vampire king), Viper (his Chief) and of course Dante (the guardian). We also get to see the little gargoyle Levet who always adds some humor to the story.

It wasn't the ending I expected for the series but it was an action packed story with a wonderful romance and some suspense. The return of some of the major characters in the series although for a final book I would have liked more of that.

Overall, this was a really good series that I will pull out an read again and this was an enjoyable book to finish the series.
