Captured by the warlike, tribal Scythians who bicker amongst themselves and bitterly resent outside interference, a fiercely loyal captain in Alexander the Great's Companion Cavalry Nikometros and his men are to be sacrificed to the Mother Goddess. Lucky chance--and the timely intervention of Tomyra, priestess and daughter of the Massegetae chieftain--allows him to defeat the Champion. With their immediate survival secured, acceptance into the tribe…and escape…is complicated by the captain's growing feelings for Tomyra--death to any who touch her--and the chief's son Areipithes who not only detests Nikometros and wants to have him killed or banished but intends to murder his own father and take over the tribe.

Alexander the Great has returned from India and set up his court in Babylon. Nikometros and a band of loyal Scythians journey deep into the heart of Persia to join the Royal court. Nikometros finds himself embroiled in the intrigues and wars of kings, generals, and merchant adventurers as he strives to provide a safe haven for his lover and friends. With the fate of an Empire hanging in the balance, Death walks beside Nikometros as events precipitate a Funeral in Babylon...

Scythian Trilogy Book 3 Funeral in Babylon eBook Max Overton

After the warfare & wanderings on the Scythian Plains our hero returns to the Macedonian army in Babylon and reconnects with the great Alexander and company. Although this movement causes a sea-change in the thrust of the previous two novels in the series, in that the military action is much reduced and is replaced by way more political in-fighting and intrigue; I felt that this change of direction would be a winner and I do believe this was the best of the trilogy.
Characters were very well presented, especially the true historical ones. They came over as interesting and, more importantly, believable. The story whilst a little rushed at the end, does give the trilogy reasonable closure and I particularly enjoyed the historical postscript that gave a great scenario of the actual consequences for the real characters in the years that followed these events.
Satisfying final part in the series. Well done Mr. Overton.

Scythian Trilogy Book 3 Funeral in Babylon eBook Max Overton Reviews

A pretty fun series, and possibly better than a 3 star rating. It's interesting, but predictable at times. Decent, but not great, writing. Overall, worth a read but not something you put in your "take with me in case I get stranded on a desert island" box.
What a great way to learn about history.
I have never known much about Alexandra the great until I read these books on him.
Not written as a biography but as a story woven thru time and history.
To egg the most from the book you should read from the beginning of the serious.
I have become a great fan of Mr Overton's works. His ability to take one to another time in history enthralls me and I loved this series as much as his other books. There is something unique about Mr Overton's style that constantly surprises the reader. I find his stories unpredictable, even when the element of historical fact may be known, who knows what is to become of his characters. I hope he continues to write as I am a ready and willing reader, and judging by Mr Overton's reviews, I am not the only one.
Good research and near reality fiction!
I thought it was very well written in a way to keep my interest . Historical accuracy was fair .
The ending was a little abrupt but overall a great series. I'm and Overton fan now! Time to upload another of his series!
The first two books of this trilogy I found I owed a great debt to Max Overton for telling this story with these brilliantly drawn characters. I would have continued to feel that way if I had not read the third book. This trilogy shouldn't have been stretched to three books when two would have been better.
