I know it's a great story when I don't want to put the book down and read past my bedtime, and Shades of Treason was just that. A wonderful scifi romance, with two fantastic, complex characters stuck in a seemingly hopeless position – Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn is charged with treason and the murder of her teammates and a telepath has made it physically and mentally impossible for her to defend herself. Commander Rhys Rykus is sent in by the Coalition to make her talk, since he’s the man who trained her and because of her loyalty training has been imprinted on her mind as her commander, which should compel her to obey him and give him the cipher for a file that the Coalition needs. Of course Ash doesn’t just take things lying down, she’s determined to escape and prove her innocence, and Rhys is determined to get the cipher, despite his feelings for her, so he has to pursue her. I love lots of action and this story doesn’t disappoint, but along with the action there is plenty of character development and back story, making me eager to see how they find a way to solve all the problems they’re both facing. It seems that this is the first book in a new series, and I’m really looking forward to reading more.Tags : Shades of Treason (An Anomaly Novel) (Volume 1) [Sandy Williams] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.
The Perfect Blend of Science Fiction and Romance

Lieutenant Ramie Ashdyn pledged her life to protect the Coalition,Sandy Williams,Shades of Treason (An Anomaly Novel) (Volume 1),Sandy Williams,0996323112,Life on other planets,Science fiction,Women soldiers,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Romance Science Fiction,Romance - Science Fiction
Shades of Treason An Anomaly Novel Volume 1 Sandy Williams 9780996323116 Books Reviews
A science-fiction romance. Nice science fiction elements, very good conspiracy, interesting psychic twists, love the crashing of the ships, solid romance.
But I got to agree with the hero of the story - the romance should not have happened. Not ever, under any circumstances. The definition of "handler" goes way beyond what we normally see in spy movies. You can't have an equal relationship with someone who has gone through the Anomaly loyalty training; this goes way beyond the Stockholm Syndrome. Because of this Every Time the romantic element of the story came up, my stomach churned.
And yet, I still would like to see the next in the series.
This book was a solid escape for a few hours. There's an intriguing mystery surrounding what's going on with the hero (and I love that our hero is woman!!) and some interesting sexual tension between her and the other MC. I will admit that at times in the beginning this attraction felt forced and a little awkward, but it evened out around the first plot point and became quite believable and relaxed; not to mention steamy! WOWZA!!!! The world building was ok, I could see a very deep and detailed world but only after getting through a good portion of the book, this is definitely a book where the author throws us into the world and expects us to learn to swim. She gives us good clues and parameters, but at times it wasn't enough, I wanted more details. And that's a good thing because the world and whatever being an Anomaly means is very interesting to me. Over all, if you're looking for a fast paced, fun escape for a weekend or some food vacation reading, this is great for that.

Though SHADES OF TREASON is science fiction, it really felt a lot like an urban fantasy story just in a sci-fi setting. The main character, Ash, is an anomaly. Though just what an anomaly is was never explained, anomalies are stronger, faster, and in some ways smarter than other humans. All those extra abilities made Ash feel a lot like your standard supernatural urban fantasy heroine.
SHADES OF TREASON is filled with intense battles, political intrigue, and a solid romantic subplot. Though, what really made this book shine for me were the characters. The two main characters really came to life on the page. Sandy did a wonderful job of creating realistic characters that worked well together, and were very likeable. Even the side characters were well fleshed out, and I wish I could’ve gotten to know some of them better.
This book is a five bat book with one scene that makes me take it down to a four bat book. While the characters are on the run from an enemy that has dropped bombs near their location, then sent soldiers after them, that are potentially only minutes away from finding them, and with both characters suffering injuries from broken fingers to bullet wounds, the two main characters stop running and have sex. While the scene itself is well written and even fits with the characters personalities a little bit, I just couldn't get over how dumb it was for the characters to be having sex while running for their lives. That being said I do feel that scene was necessary to create a stronger bond between the characters, I just wish there'd been a better time and place for it.
SHADES OF TREASON has a very solid ending, so I assumed that it was a stand alone book. I was thrilled to find out that this is the first book in a new series. I can’t wait to see what Ash has in store for us in the next installment of the Anomaly series. Until then, I highly recommend SHADES OF TREASON, this is a book I intend to reread many times.
