The Queen’s Blade returns to Jashimari to await the reward the Idol of the Beasts promised him for saving Minna-Satu’s life – the rebirth of his familiar. Rivan is reborn in the spring, and Blade knows the wonder and joy of bonding with his familiar again, which he lost when the Cotti slew the wood cat at the Rout of Ashtalon, when Blade was just twelve years old. Prince Dravis, however, who has fled to Contara to evade the Cotti courts that have condemned him for murdering Trelath, seeks vengeance. His soldiers capture Blade in the village where he is living while Rivan reaches adulthood and take him to Contara. There, Dravis tries to force the assassin to kill Kerrion, After escaping with the aid of a few lies, Blade assassinates the Prince instead, but then falls foul of another of Kerrion’s half-brothers, this time an older, illegitimate one. In Jondar, Chiana receives a message that the Queen’s Blade is dead, along with a half-rotted head. Although Kerra refuses to accept it at first, Chiana fears that it is true and sends a company of soldiers to Ashmarad, capital of Contara, to find him, or his body. In Cotti, the news of Blade’s death saddens Minna-Satu, and Kerrion promises her retribution, but no one knows who killed the Queen’s Blade, or if, indeed, the legendary assassin is truly dead.

There is now conflict and resolution in three sections of the world in this novel, although only two areas are of primary interest to the novelist - Cotti where the queen resides with her new family, and Contara where Blade finds himself in a small village waiting for his "familiar" Revan to mature and join him as his sole mate. I find it quite interesting and original that the author depicts his characters with attributes of animals which he assigns his characters as "familiars". In Blade's instance his familiar is Rivan a wood cat. The author also fabricates some of these animals. The familiars play a vital role in his novels and contribute an important and unusual aspect to the plot.

Lord Protector The Queen Blade Book VI T C Southwell 9781466422162 Books Reviews

please refer to my review of the first five in the series, since I stand by most of my comments on the story and the writing. However, being the end or conclusion of the story or saga, I though it was a little bland or hurried up.
We know this is the closing chapter ( or is it?). After all, we know that he shares the.Idol's blood which should easily give him another 100 years or so.
I'm not going to write too much for this series except to say that I liked the series and the price was right. Southwell seems able to come up with neat characters who thankfully win in the end, which is a good book recipe. This review will appear in the other three books too.
Love this book and what a refreshing change from a lot of the action fantasy out there.
Good deep believable plot. Well thought up and believable characters. I could not put this book down, it was seamless in action and there was lots of it.
There was plenty of intellect and it did not take too much time to learn to love the characters.
Great read and I will be reading the series.
The story continues, the depth of character, the nuiances, the humour is fantastic !!! I could not put the book down till I completed it. Keeps you hanging on & wondering what is to happen next. As I read it very quickly, I had to go back & re-read Book V & Book VI again, to enjoy the whole story once more & to take/appreciate those parts that only a second read can fullfill. Thank you T C Southwell for a most entertaining series. I am now reading the Slave Empire series & it is looking to be just as entertaining.
It is exceedingly rare for a book to provoke strong emotions from me. I am man enough to admit that this book did just that. I laughed at parts, literally out loud. I experienced joy and sorrow. I even teared up at one particularly emotional part. T.C. is an extremely talented author, in my opinion, and you would enjoy these books as I have.
Born to be a sheep herder and destined to be the Queen's Blade, the hero learns the political intrigues required of a Lord, and not just any Lord, but the highest Lord in the land. With his title and his lands, his castle and his servants, he wants nothing more than to flee his new responsibilities, but he was not made a Lord to run away. He must protect the queen at all costs, and much of that cost is borne by his physical body. His keen mind and amazing physical capabilities push him to the limit and are the only reason he is able to survive. Well, that and a little help from others who believe in him. Well written and a pleasure to read.
